Our cycling tips in and around Montreux

Where we love to ride, grab a coffee or have a glass of wine

A good route for gravel bikes is the 31km (700 mts of climbing) Tour du Mont Pelerin, which can also be done on a road bike as there is just a 2 km gravel section. You start your ride along the lake in a Western direction before starting this scenic loop in Vevey. As you climb you will be meandering through the magnificent Lavaux vineyards whilst enjoying fabulous views of the lake. Highly recommended.

If you are on a MTB or gravel bike you can head inland and ride the Montreux Panorama route (signposted with n. 599), which is a 29 km loop with some 1300 metres of climbing. The views over the lake and the Alps will be amazing.

Why Montreux is such a popular cycling destination ?

The beautiful town of Montreux on the shores of lake Geneva is of couse home to the world famous eponymous jazz festival, which takes place every year in July. We argue that combining a stay in Montreux over the jazz festival and combining it with some cycling makes for a fantastic holiday.

If you want leisurely rides you can head along the lake towards Lausanne and stop at the incredible Lavaux wine terraces, which date back to Roman times and are a Unesco World Heritage site.

If you have the legs you can leave from Montreux to attempt the ride along the entire length of the lake. Although mostly on flat roads it is still 180 km loop so it will be a long day in the saddle. Beware of some traffic on the Souther French shore but a cycle path will take you all the way back from Geneva to Montreux.

If you only want to ride have the lake you can cycle to Evian les Bains, yes where the famous water comes from, and take a ferry across the lake to Lausanne and then ride the short distance back to Montreux.

If you are on a MTB or gravel bike you could head inland and ride the Montreux Panorama route (signposted with n. 599), which is a 29 km loop with some 1300 metres of climbing. The views over the lake and the Alps will be amazing.
