Day 2 Passo Stelvio
We get down to business with your first big challenge, the colossal Passo Stelvio. You can choose from 2 options – both will make for a BIG day in the mountains.
You can make this a legendary day by tackling both sides of the Stelvio Pass. Bear in mind that both ascents are really tough and that the descent of the Northern side, with its 48 hairpin bends, makes for a technical descent.
Alternatively you can do a loop by first climbing most of the way up to the Stelvio and going across into Tyrol via the neighbouring Passo Umbral (2504m). Then descend and climb the massive Stelvio from the North side.
Whatever option you choose, this is where a good van support becomes really important. You will definitely feel the altitude. Even in the middle of summer, the summit of the Stelvio can get very cold. So, having the ability to warm up and add some proper layers at the top is really important before tackling the long descent.
2 options possible :
– Loop with Passo Umbral (2503m) and Passo Stelvio (2758m) – 100km with 3200m+
– Stelvio (2758m) both ways : from Bormio and back from Prato Allo Stelvio 93km with 3340m+
