Come June and July, Provence is transformed into a glorious purple haze as lavender fields bloom. With this self-guided tour, you’ll cycle through postcard worthy landscapes whilst having plenty of time to relax, explore and discover the best of French hospitality.
Day 1 Arrival in Sault
Check into your hotel in Sault, a stop-over for the many cyclists before they make their way up the traitorous Mont Ventoux. You instead can relax in town and enjoy the first lavender fields that cover the base of the Mont Ventoux.

Day 2 Cheese the day
For your first stage, you’ll leave Sault and ride through the incredible purple expanse before ending the day in the village of Banon. For all the cheese lovers out there, make sure to try some of the town’s tasty goat cheese whose distinct nutty flavor comes from being matured in chestnut leaves. A night in Banon will give you ample time to discover all of its culinary specialties!

Day 3 Put the petal to the metal
You will ride across the plateau of Albion, an impressive karstic massif which is blessed with lavender, corn, small spelt, and saffron making for an extremely colourful landscape. You’ll also see the abandoned nuclear base below. The scent of lavender will follow you all the way to Saint-Saturnin-les-Apt, in the heart of the Luberon region.

Day 4 Château de Lacoste
On today’s program: cliff top villages, ochre quarries, an 11th century châteaux and many other jewels of the Luberon region. You’ll end the day in Ménerbes, where Picasso once resided. If you make it in time, check out the corkscrew museum, where over 1’000 varieties are on display!

Day 5 Ochres of Roussillon
Another colourful day awaits you, with the fiery red natural quarries of Roussillon. Sculpted by storms, these former ochre deposits are vibrant in colour and were often used in the construction of Provencal houses. You’ll notice these dry-stone houses upon your arrival in Gordes, one of the “trendier” villages of the Luberon, attracting movie stars and celebs. This will be your home for the night.
